Arshad Nadeem has become a national icon in Pakistan, earning widespread acclaim after winning the gold medal in the javelin throw at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. His remarkable throw of 92.97 metres not only secured him the top spot but also set a new Olympic record, making him a source of immense pride for the entire country. This historic achievement has catapulted Nadeem into the spotlight, with the nation rallying to celebrate his success through prestigious awards, significant rewards, and heartfelt gestures of appreciation from both the government and his community.

Car and Cash Prize of 10 Crore

Arshad Nadeem has emerged as Pakistan’s most celebrated figure after winning a gold medal at the Summer Olympics 2024. Nadeem not only secured victory but also set a new Olympic record with a javelin throw of 92.97 metres. In recognition of this historic achievement, the Punjab government announced a reward of 10 Crore rupees and a brand-new Honda Civic for the athlete.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz personally visited Nadeem's village in Mian Chunnu to hand over the cash prize and car keys. During the ceremony, she praised Nadeem, saying, “Arshad deserves everything he gets because he has brought so much joy and pride to the nation.” The car, with a special number plate reading 92.97, commemorates Nadeem’s Olympic record. The CM also presented a cheque of 50 lakh rupees to Nadeem's coach, Salman Iqbal Butt, as a token of appreciation.

Father-in-law Gifts Buffalo

In addition to government accolades, Nadeem’s father-in-law, Muhammad Nawaz, gifted him a buffalo, a symbol of honour and value in their rural village. Nawaz emphasised that this gesture reflects Nadeem’s deep connection to his roots in Khanewal, Punjab. Despite his international success, Nadeem continues to live modestly with his family in the village. Nawaz also mentioned that Nadeem is married to his youngest daughter, Ayesha, and the couple has three children.

The Second Highest Civilian Award

Further honouring Nadeem’s remarkable achievement, the Pakistani government announced that he would be awarded the Hilal-e-Imtiaz, the country’s second-highest civilian award. This recognition, along with a commemorative stamp titled ‘Azm-e-Istehkam’ (Commitment to Stability), will be part of Pakistan’s 77th Independence Day celebrations. President Asif Ali Zardari praised Nadeem’s success, stating that his performance had brought immense pride to the nation. The Hilal-e-Imtiaz will be presented in a special ceremony, marking Nadeem’s outstanding contribution to sports and his historic Olympic victory.

This marks a significant moment for Pakistan, as Nadeem’s gold is the first individual Olympic victory for the country in 40 years.
