Dolce & Gabbana Expands Luxury Offerings with Dog Perfume Inspired by Founder’s Pet
Dolce & Gabbana launches luxury dog perfume, Fefé, but RSPCA warns against using scented products that affect dogs' senses.
Italian luxury brand Dolce & Gabbana is expanding its opulent product line to cater to a new clientele—dogs. The brand has recently launched a dog perfume named after its founder’s pet, Fefé. This new offering, described as an alcohol-free “scented mist,” reflects Dolce & Gabbana founder Domenico Dolce's "unconditional love for his loyal dog Fefé.”
According to the Dolce & Gabbana website, the fragrance “blends fresh and delicate notes of ylang ylang, musk, and sandalwood.” The brand characterizes the product as “a tender and embracing fragrance crafted for a playful beauty routine,” designed to add a touch of luxury to a dog's grooming regimen. The perfume is available for 99 euros, which is approximately ₹9,000.
The luxury dog perfume is presented in a stylish green glass bottle, which features a gold-plated paw. Describing the bottle, the brand states: "This fragrance is housed in a sleek green lacquered glass bottle, adorned with a vibrant red metal cap and a precious 24-carat gold-plated paw.”
Dog owners are advised to spray the perfume on their hands before rubbing it into their dog’s fur, starting from the middle of the body and moving toward the tail. This method is recommended to “give them a moment of scented pampering.” Alternatively, the perfume can be applied directly to the fur, but owners are cautioned to avoid the nose area.
Dolce & Gabbana has also assured consumers that “no animals were mistreated during the making of this campaign. Their safety was fully protected.”
However, the launch has not been without controversy. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) has expressed concerns about the potential impact of such products on dogs. “Dogs rely on their sense of smell to communicate and interact with their environment as well as the people and other animals within it. Therefore we advise that strong-scented products such as perfumes or sprays are avoided, especially as some smells can be really unpleasant for dogs,” said RSPCA senior scientific officer Alice Potter in a statement to The Guardian. Potter also warned against the tendency to anthropomorphise dogs, emphasizing that their sensory needs are different from humans.
As Dolce & Gabbana continues to push the boundaries of luxury, this new product highlights the growing trend of high-end pet accessories, though it raises questions about the balance between luxury and animal welfare.
