Indian dishes and their names are not easy to pronounce by everyone. And it is understandable that, ‘Khandvi,’ ‘Fafda,’ ‘Idli,’ can be tough for the foreigners to say. And in a hilarious yet endearing twist, South Indian culinary classics like idli, dosa, and medu vada have received a glamorous makeover in an overseas restaurant, much to the amusement of social media users. Harsh Goenka recently shared a snapshot from X (formerly Twitter), showcasing how these beloved dishes are presented abroad with fancy new names and descriptions.

The image captures a menu where medu vadas immersed in sambar are whimsically termed "Dunked Doughnut Delight." The description follows suit, dubbing them as "2 deep fried savoury doughnuts dipped in lentil soup." Next in line, the humble idli with sambar is rebranded as "Dunked Rice Cake Delight," described as a "savoury rice cake made by steaming a batter of fermented black lentils and rice, served with lentil soup." Lastly, the plain dosa is transformed into a "Naked Crepe," described enticingly as a "crisp rice batter crepe served with lentil soup, tangy tomato, and classic coconut relish."

Beyond the playful renaming, what truly caught netizens' attention were the prices attached to these dishes. Medu vada is listed at a staggering $16.49 (approx ₹1377), idli at $15.39 (approx ₹1285), and dosa at $17.59 (approx ₹1470). These figures sparked a flurry of reactions online, with many echoing Harsh Goenka's sentiment that "Who knew vada, idli, and dosa could sound so fancy? With these strange names, there's no fun in eating!"
