With an unexpected twist, police officers in Sao Paulo went undercover as Power Rangers to catch pickpockets during the Carnival. As the streets filled with dancing and celebration, dozens of officers disguised themselves as clowns, priests, and even famous characters like Mario and Luigi.

However, the real stars of the show were six officers dressed as the iconic Power Rangers.

Since Carnival began on Saturday, these "Power Rangers" have been on the lookout for thieves, especially those stealing phones from unsuspecting revelers.

The Yellow and Red Power Rangers arrested a man with seven stolen cellphones. As they made the arrest, the Green and Red Rangers tackled another suspect to the ground while onlookers cheered.

By Tuesday, the police had arrested six people and recovered 23 stolen phones.

Sharing the news on X, Sao Paulo's governor humorously referenced the popular 1990s superhero series, saying, "It’s morphin’ time! The Power Rangers of our Civil Police are putting on another show this carnival! Always vigilant, our heroes noticed suspicious behavior within the crowd, and with an approach no ranger could fault, they arrested the criminal and recovered seven cell phones in one go."

Video showed officers in full-body lycra suits, with each wearing the iconic colors of the Power Rangers red, blue, yellow, and green while patrolling the Carnival crowd. Another officer, dressed as the Black Power Ranger, proudly displayed the recovered stolen phones to the camera.

The operation was part of a broader effort by law enforcement to curb crime during the busy Carnival festivities, a time when large crowds can attract organized gangs targeting people for theft.

Social Media Reacts

Social media users from around the world have been praising the Brazilian police officers for their creative approach. One user wrote, "Go Go Power Rangers!" while another simply commented, "Excellent!" A third user expressed their amazement, saying, "Okay, Power Rangers in real life!"

This isn’t the first time law enforcement has used unexpected way to catch criminals. In February, an officer in Lima, Peru, conducted a drug raid dressed as a capybara on Valentine’s Day, seizing over 1,700 packages of drugs. Peru's police have also disguised themselves as Marvel superheroes like Spider-Man, Captain America, and Thor to conduct similar operations.
