When Royalty Dined Desi: King Charles, Queen Camilla Visit Darjeeling Express in London, Pack Kolkata Biryani

Viral News: British Monarch King Charles III and Queen Camilla visited Indian restaurant Darjeeling Express in London to participate in Ramadan preparations. The royal couple helped in the packaging of dates and biryani boxes that will be sent for Iftar celebrations in local hospitals. 

Darjeeling Express is run by Asma Khan, who is an Indian-born British restaurateur. The video of the visit was also shared by the social media team of the royal family.

“Packing dates at Darjeeling Express! Traditionally, dates are eaten as the first food to break the fast at sunset during Ramadan. Their Majesties helped pack dates that will be sent to local hospitals for Iftaar during the holy month,” read the caption. 

The royal couple also joined Asma Khan and a group of chefs in the kitchen, where they learned about the process and methodology behind making biryani.

Asma Khan, founder of Darjeeling Express, wrote in a post on Instagram, “Today the King and Queen joined us at @darjeelingldn for a pre-Ramadan gathering where they packed dates and biryani- and yes they took some biryani home!”

Ramadan 2025 is expected to begin on the evening of February 28 and will end on the evening of March 30 2025, with the exact dates contingent upon the sighting of the moon.
