After being stranded in India for over 36 hours due to a technical snag in his plane, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Tuesday finally left New Delhi for his home. Trudeau got stuck in the country after his plane broke down at the airport. Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar was seen at the airport to bid goodbye to the stranded Canadian Prime Minister.

According to the Canadian authorities, a backup plane was scheduled for the Canadian Prime Minister and his delegation for his departure from Indian land.

Trudeau arrived in India on September 8 to attend the G20 Summit in New Delhi and was accompanied by his 16-year-old son, Xavier Trudeau. They were supposed to fly back home after the conclusion of the high-level G20 meet but had to stay after his Airbus plane reported a technical issue.

"On behalf of PM Narendra Modi Ji and my colleagues in government, I was at the airport today to thank Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada for his presence at the G20 Summit and wished him and his entourage a safe trip back home," the Union minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar wrote on X.

Since no prior bilateral meeting of the Canadian Prime Minister was scheduled with the Indian authorities, Trudeau during his forced stay chose to remain in his room in the capital’s Lalit Hotel following the issue with his plane.

Notably, the snag incident came amid the time when the Central Government released a strongly worded statement in criticism of the Sikh and anti-India protests being allowed in Canada. During the talks on the sidelines of the G20 Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed concerns to his counterpart about the continuing activities by Khalistani elements on Canadian soil.
