At least five worshippers were killed and dozens of others injured after a powerful blast at Jamia Haqqania Seminary in Pakistan.
Peshawar: A powerful bomb blast hit a mosque inside Jamia Haqqania seminary in northwestern Pakistan on Friday, killing at least five worshippers and injuring dozens of others, police said. The explosion occurred just days before the start of Ramadan.
The attack took place in Akkora Khattak, a district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, according to district police chief Abdul Rashid.
"The explosion happened during prayers. Officers are investigating the cause, and the dead and wounded have been shifted to hospitals," Rashid said.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. However, Jamia Haqqania is known for its historic links with the Afghan Taliban.
Security forces cordoned off the area, and emergency teams rushed the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The blast happened just before Ramadan, which is expected to begin on Saturday or Sunday, depending on the sighting of the moon.
