Bulgaria began vaccinating the elderly on Wednesday against COVID-19.
Uliana Dunova, a 69-year-old resident of a nursing home in central Sofia, became the first elderly person to be vaccinated in the country.
"I believe in medicine. I believe that vaccination is our only way and chance for us to prevent this virus," she said shortly after receiving the jab.
Bulgaria began rolling out the vaccine on December 27 but the first doses went to medical workers.
The Balkan nation of 7 million people has reported 215,416 virus cases and 8,916 deaths.
