Dozens of Cuban artists demonstrated in front of the Ministry of Culture in Havana on Friday night, protesting against the police evicting a group who participated in a hunger strike. Close to a dozen artists, activists, academics and journalists participated in the hunger strike for ten days, demanding the release of rapper Denis Solís, condemned to eight months in jail for insulting a police officer.
As police evicted the group on Thursday, 70 more artists joined the protest Friday, demanding negotiations with the Havana government. Famous actor Jorge 'Pichi' Perugorria, and film director Fernando Perez joined demonstrators.
"We have to listen to them and give them space in this nation," said Perez. A group of 32, including Perugorria and Perez, entered the Ministry of Culture to assert their demands.
