Giorgia Meloni admits to Ukraine ‘fatigue’ as she falls victim to Russian prank phone call
"I see that there is a lot of fatigue, I have to say the truth, from all the sides. We (are) near moment in which we need a way out," Meloni said.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni admitted to the growing ‘international fatigue’ with the war in Ukraine as she fell victim to a phone call made by the two Russian pranksters pretending to be the head of the African Union Commission. The 13-minute audio of the phone call dating back to September was released online on Wednesday, Nov 1, by popular Russians Vovan and Lexus known to dupe the Western politicians and celebrities.
In the phone call, which Meloni’s office agreed in a statement occurred on September 18, Italian prime minister who was deceived by the impostors who said that the international community was dropping support for Ukraine as war has dragged on for almost 2 years.
She also told a Russian prankster, assuming he was the head of African Union Commission, that there is definitely the lack of support for Italy in dealing with the influx of migration from Ukraine. “We need a way out,” she told the caller. "The problem is to find a way out which can be acceptable for both without destroying the international law," she said when asked about her views about the ongoing war in Ukraine.
"I see that there is a lot of fatigue, I have to say the truth, from all the sides. We (are) near the moment in which everybody understands that we need a way out,” Meloni said, according to the English translation of her conversation.
‘Only Italy has to solve this problem alone?’ Meloni on illegal immigration
Italy’s Prime Minister Meloni in course of her phone call also lamented that the international partners and Ukraine’s staunchest allies were not doing enough to help as she addressed the subject of Italy being the first port of call for Ukrainian migrants crossing the Mediterranean. There’s a general fatigue that has clouded allies, Meloni said. "They do all agree that only Italy has to solve this problem alone. It's a very stupid way of thinking,” the Italian Prime Minister added.
Meloni is among world leaders who shared her real opinions about the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, prankster Lexus, or Alexei Stolyarov, said. "Unfortunately, unlike her, many European politicians behave like some kind of programmed robot and express points of view that are only voiced in their own circles," he told Reuters by telephone. He did the talking while Vovan also listened in on the call with Meloni, he reportedly added.
Earlier, Ukraine's commander-in-chief General Valery Zaluzhny in an interview acknowledged that the Russia and Ukraine war has reached impasse, and that there will most likely be no deep and beautiful breakthrough as the troops are indulged in heavy fighting over just a ‘few miles of territory.’
