‘Golden Age of Middle East’: Trump Hails 14-Day Iran Truce as ‘Big Day for World Peace’, Says Big Money Will Be Made
President Trump further emphasized that the reconstruction of Iran’s infrastructure would be a central pillar of the long-term regional outlook.
New Delhi: After US President Donald Trump pivoted away from his ultimatum of devastating military action late Tuesday after the U.S. and Iran brokered a two-week ceasefire, Trump in his first reaction touted the breakthrough as a major victory for international diplomacy, asserting that Iran has signaled a readiness for lasting stability after a volatile and prolonged standoff.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “A big day for World Peace! Iran wants it to happen, they’ve had enough! Likewise, so has everyone else!"
Hormuz Traffic
Adding further, he said that Washington would play a role in ensuring stability in the region’s critical energy corridor, stating, “The United States of America will be helping with the traffic buildup in the Strait of Hormuz. There will be lots of positive action! Big money will be made."
President Trump further emphasized that the reconstruction of Iran’s infrastructure would be a central pillar of the long-term regional outlook.
“Iran can start the reconstruction process. We’ll be loading up with supplies of all kinds, and just ‘hangin’ around’ in order to make sure that everything goes well. I feel confident that it will," he said.
Linking the breakthrough to his domestic vision, Trump remarked that just as the United States is entering a new era of prosperity, the Middle East could similarly be on the cusp of a "Golden Age."
Halt to strikes
Trump swerved to deescalate the war less than two hours before the deadline he set for Tehran to capitulate to a deal or face attacks on its bridges and power plants meant to destroy Iranian “civilization.”
After more than a month of hostilities that first erupted on February 28, both Washington and Tehran have framed the current ceasefire as a significant strategic triumph for their respective sides.
Trump described the agreement as a “total and complete victory" for the United States.
In a statement, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council declared that the nation had delivered a 'historic and crushing defeat' to its opponents. Following the announcement, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that maritime vessels would be granted safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz for a two-week period, providing a critical, albeit temporary, reprieve for volatile global energy markets.
Trump threats raised alarms
Before the deadline, airstrikes hit two bridges and a train station, and the U.S. hit military infrastructure on Kharg Island, a key hub for Iranian oil production.
While Iran cannot match the sophistication of U.S. and Israeli weaponry or their dominance in the air, its chokehold on the strait since the war began in late February is roiling the world economy and raising the pressure on Trump both at home and abroad to find a way out of the standoff.
