Two Indiana fishermen made a life-saving move when they spotted a car wreck with the driver still trapped inside, clinging to life after crashing almost a week earlier. Indiana state authorities deemed it a "miracle" that the unidentified man remained alive after his car veered off the highway and came to rest under a bridge on Interstate 94 last Wednesday.

First responders were dispatched to rescue the man around 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday after Nivardo Delatorre and his father-in-law, Mario Garcia, spotted the vehicle near a creek while searching for fishing spots, as reported.

The gleaming appearance of the car caught their attention through the wooded area. One of the men peered into the vehicle, where he observed the man's body and initially believed he was deceased.

“I went to touch it and he turned around,” Garcia said at a press conference streamed on a local news channel.

“And it almost killed me there because it was kind of shocking,” he added.

The victim, in his 20s, was trapped in his seat and unable to reach his cell phone after the crash, according to police.

“He was alive and he was very happy to see us, I’ve never seen a relief like that,” he said.

“He says that he tried yelling and screaming, but nobody would hear him. It just was quiet, just the sound of the water,” he added.

The two Good Samaritans immediately called 911 and remained by his side until first responders arrived.

Emergency crews utilized heavy machinery to extricate the man from the wreckage, and he was airlifted to South Bend Memorial Hospital in critical condition with potentially life-threatening injuries, as per police reports.

The rescue operation lasted several hours, attributed to the challenging terrain and the manner in which the driver was entangled inside the mangled vehicle, according to the local station.
