India's 'Chicken 65' ranked among world's 10 best fried chicken dishes; Check full list

The spicy deep-fried chicken dish, 'Chicken 65' which finds its origin in the Indian state of Chennai has made it on the list of the top 10 fried chicken dishes in the TasteAtlas food rankings. The classic poultry dish is prepared using deep-fried chicken which is marinated in ginger, lemon, red chiles, and a variety of other spices, according to TasteAtlas.

"There are a few theories about the origin of chicken 65. The most popular theory says that it was created in Tamil Nadu by A. M. Buhari in 1965," the experiential travel online guide that ranks the traditional food collating the authentic recipes, as well as the food critic reviews, said. 

Chicken 65 dish was originally prepared with as many as 65 hot chilli peppers. TasteAtlas, which ranked it amongst the top 10 foods, says that the cuisine is a "testament of manliness." "There are also some unlikely theories, such as the one claiming that the chicken was cut into 65 pieces, or that the chicken was 65 days old when the dish was prepared," TasteAtlas informed in its description of the delicacy.

Chicken 65, and its numerous variations across India

The dish Chicken 65 is so popular that it has numerous variations across India, and apparently, every state in Southern India has its own delicious version. For instance, the Karnataka state garnishes Chicken 65 with grated coconut, meanwhile, the state of Andhra Pradesh cooks it thoroughly instead of going for 'deep frying.' But commonly, the Chicken 65 dish is served with hot, red chutneys to savour its taste. 

Indian cuisines were ranked as the fifth-best in the world according to a list released by TasteAtlas, earlier. Indian dishes were nominated among the top five in their epic taste in voting that was conducted last year. Italian cuisine was ranked as the first in the world, while the Greece and Spain cuisines secured the second and third spot, respectively. Japanese cuisine was ranked at the fourth spot. In the TasteAtlas survey, the Indian cuisine scored a whopping 4.54 rating out of 5. Tweeting the results, TasteAtlas said that Indian food was loved worldwide for its aromatic ingredients and spices. Ghee, Malai, Butter Garlic Naan, Garam Masala, and Keema were among the best-rated foods in India.
