Protesters took to the streets of the Argentine capital Buenos Aires on Tuesday, demanding more jobs and social benefits.

Hundreds filled the square in front of the presidential palace as president Alberto Fernandez, speaking remotely on UN General Assembly, praised new possible deals to grapple with Argentina's debt of 45 billion US dollars to the IMF.

A socioeconomic crisis has been dragging on for years in Argentina and deepened during the new coronavirus pandemic.

Poverty affects 42% of the population and accumulated annual inflation of more than 50%.

The protesters said the government had cut financial aid and food programs to divert the money to pay foreign debt.

On Monday, President Alberto Fernández took the oath to six new ministers, reshuffling the cabinet amid a loss in primary legislative elections.
