A Ukrainian official has informed President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that Russia’s Lancet and Orlan drones remain a problem for the armed forces of Ukraine, as per the Ukrainian presidential office. The discussion between the two took place during a meeting on Tuesday, August 15, reported Russia-based TASS.

Taking to Telegram, a Ukrainian serviceman named Yermak wrote, "The military informed me about problems created by Russian unmanned aerial vehicles, including Lancet strike drone and Orlan surveillance drone. This threat must not be ignored. I took note of this information."

The Ukrainian presidential administration chief asserted that Ukrainian specialists have long been examining these drones and informing partner countries of their findings. The discussion between Zelenskyy and Ukrainian soldiers happened while he was visiting nine brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This Ukraine's battalion has been deployed in Kyiv-controlled areas of the Zaporizhzhia region. During the visit, he listened to the reports from their commanders and discussed the existing problems with them.

Meanwhile, since June 4, the Ukrainian army has been making unsuccessful offensive attempts, according to the Russian Defence Ministry. According to Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu,  the Ukrainian army’s losses had surpassed 43,000 since Kyiv launched its counter-offensive on July 11. Further, Kiyv has also experienced the loss of various military hardware, including 26 planes and 25 Leopard tanks. Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasised that Ukrainian troops had failed to achieve any success in any of the frontline areas, as per TASS.

Counter-offensive operations taking place in three areas

Zelenskyy's Ukraine has been conducting counteroffensive operations in at least three sections of the frontline, as per the US-based think tank Institute for the Study of War. Ukrainian troops have been committed to the west of the Zaporizhzhia region counter-offensive also, reported Sky News.

"The counteroffensive is advancing slowly in southern Ukraine because forces must overcome a three-echeloned Russian defensive line," said Ukrainian colonel Petro Chernyk. Further, he added, " Russian line of defence includes a first line of minefields stretching several kilometres; a second line with artillery, equipment and personnel concentrations; and a third line of rear positions meant to preserve resources."
