Madrid: A deep-sea black seadevil anglerfish was spotted swimming near the surface off Spain’s Canary Islands, marking what may be the first-ever live sighting of this species, as it typically resides thousands of feet below.

Earlier this month, Spanish NGO Condrik Tenerife and marine life photographer David Jara Boguna captured footage of the deep-sea predator commonly known as the "black sea monster." They came across the fish while conducting shark research near Tenerife.

No exact cause of the death has been provided by the scientists yet on the death of Anglerfish.

The most notable feature of the anglerfish is its luminous lure. A bioluminescent organ, often resembling a fishing rod, extends from its head and emits light to attract prey in the deep, dark waters.

Depending on the species, anglerfish can vary greatly in size. Some species are relatively small, reaching lengths of 30 cm, while others can grow up to 1.5 meters (about 5 feet).
