The towns in Israel near the Gaza Strip continued to be hit by a barrage of Hamas rockets and shelling as the war rages on the fourth consecutive day. Republic TV's camera captured a live rocket attack during its ground report from Sderot town, which is located a few kilometres away from Gaza City at the border.

In the video, Journalist Gursimran Singh was reporting the horrific situation of Sderot amid the attack when the missiles were spotted across the sky. Back-to-back rockets were launched from Gaza as loud thuds were heard. Following this, the iron dome system in the Israeli city was activated. It also managed to intercept a few rockets. As the attack escalated, a siren was sounded in a bid to alert the localites.

According to Israel's military, they have successfully retaken control of the border fence and have recorded no further Hamas incursions over the past 24 hours. Elsewhere, the air force conducted another night of devastating and wide-sweeping airstrikes in the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli Defence Force (IDF) has successfully completed the evacuation of communities on the border with the Gaza Strip, and is conducting searches for any Hamas militants who may be hiding inside Israel, the air force has said. “IDF had completed the evacuation of the settlements adjacent to the fence in the Gaza Strip, with the exception of those with essential positions and exceptional cases who remained,” it said earlier in the morning.

Meanwhile, at least 900 Israelis have been killed and over 2,616 people injured after Hamas launched a barbaric 'surprise attack' on Israel.

Israel declares war

Israel declared a state of war on October 8 when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a stern warning to Hamas, claiming that it had begun a terrible war and that the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) would use all of its strength to undermine the Palestinian group's capacity.

According to the Government Press Office, a body that operates under the Israeli PM's office noted that over 100 people have been taken as hostages in Gaza. Moreover, Hamas and Islamic Jihad on Sunday night said that they have been holding some 130 Israeli hostages and claimed that this includes high-ranking army officials, the Times of Israel reported.

Following the announcement by the Israeli PM, noting that the country is at war, Israeli jets carried out "intense" airstrikes on targets in Gaza on Sunday, October 8, afternoon.
