Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) is the latest automaker to announce that its passenger and commercial vehicles will become more expensive from April 2025. Joining the likes of Tata Motors, Kia, Hyundai Motor, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW, Mahindra has hiked the prices of its sports utility vehicles (SUVs) and CV category vehicles by up to 3 per cent.
According to the company, the price hike is a result of the increase in input costs and higher commodity prices, along with “other contributing factors.” The extent of the rising prices will depend from model to model, meaning not every eligible SUV or CV model will become 3 per cent costlier. Although, the automaker did not reveal the revised prices.
Mahindra said the decision also factors in its efforts to navigate the challenges, such as inflation and an increase in the cost of raw materials. Other automakers have also cited these reasons as they announced price increases across their lineups within the past week. While Tata Motors, Mercedes-Benz, and Kia Motors will increase the prices of their cars by up to 3 per cent, Maruti Suzuki’s cars will become dearer by up to 4 per cent. Renault will increase prices by up to 2 per cent instead.
The announcement comes days after it released the sales data for February, according to which the company sold a total of 83,702 vehicles with a 15 per cent month-over-month increase. Its ‘Utility Vehicles’ segment registered total sales of 50,420 SUVs in the local market, representing a growth of 19 per cent. Its overall rollouts stood at 52,386, including exports.
In the commercial vehicle segment, Mahindra sold 25,527 units in February, a marginal increase over 21,672 units during the same period last year. The company said its exports in this segment include 1,647 units.
