Hurun Global List 2025: India's billionaire population has significantly increased throughout the years. According to the Hurun Global Rich List for 2025, India now has 284 billionaires with a total worth of Rs 98 lakh crore, which is about one-third of India's GDP and exceeds Saudi Arabia's GDP.
India ranks third worldwide in the number of billionaires, behind the United States, which has 870 billionaires, and China.
Over the last 12 years, the number of billionaires in India has seen many changes. In 2022, there was a big rise, with 249 billionaires. But in 2023, the number fell to 187 due to global challenges and market uncertainties. Things improved again in 2024, with the count climbing to 271 and then further increasing to 284 in 2025.
Mumbai continues to lead as the home of India's richest individuals, with 90 billionaires living in the city. The city houses five billionaires in the top ten, followed by New Delhi with two billionaires, while Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, and Pune each contribute one.
Of India's 284 billionaires, 175 increased their wealth in the past year. On average, each billionaire's fortune currently stands at Rs 34,514 crore, surpassing that of China's billionaires, who have Rs 29,027 crore.
Mukesh Ambani, with a net wealth of Rs 8.6 Lakh Cr, retained the title of India's richest person despite his wealth declining by Rs 1 Lakh Cr from last year. Gautam Adani's fortune grew by 13%, enabling him to rank among the top three in India.
Roshni Nadar of HCL has made her debut on the list with a net wealth of Rs 3.5 Lakh Cr. This follows her father, Shiv Nadar, transferring a 47% stake in HCL as part of a strategic succession plan. She is the only woman from India to be represented in India's Top 10 wealthiest individuals.
Similarly, Dilip Shanghvi’s wealth grew by 21% to Rs 2.5 Lakh Cr, moving him to fifth place.
India's youngest billionaires, Shashank Kumar and Harshil Mathur of Razorpay, are 34 years old with a net worth of Rs 8,643 crore each. In comparison, China's youngest billionaire, Wang Zelong of CNNC, is 29 years of age with a net wealth of Rs 8,643 crore.
With four from Bengaluru and three from Mumbai, a total of seven entrants under the age of forty feature on the Hurun Global Rich List 2025.
The average age of Indian billionaires is 68, two years higher than the global billionaires' average age.
