Advertising industry revenue pegged at Rs 1,136 billion: FICCI

The big television and digital advertising industry is aiming to garner revenue to the tune of Rs 1136 billion by 2025, FICCI said.

Advertising industry in India is huge. It directly links the company's products with their end consumers. It helps companies to reach heights in terms of revenue, sales, market share and help them to build a 'brand' name for themselves. All companies, whether MNC's, start-ups or a local business needs advertising to make the consumer aware of their existence in the market.  Advertising is not a one-time process, but is continuous in nature. One needs to advertise while setting up the business, then advertise about the new launches and what makes a product stand out from its competitors.

Television advertising in India

As per FICCI's survey (2017-2022), it estimated the revenue from advertising industry to be Rs 331 billion for year 2023. As per the statistics, the revenue from the advertising industry was increasing on a year-on-year basis. However, it saw a huge downfall in 2020, due to Covid-19 pandemic. In 2020, the revenue was reported at Rs 251 billion, as compared to Rs 320 billion, the previous year.

After the huge decline in the year 2020, the advertising industry saw a stimulated growth in terms of revenue the following year. In 2021, the industry reported an almost 80 per cent increase in its revenue, which accounted for Rs 313 billion. The industry aims to generate Rs 371 billion of revenue in the year 2025.

In this digital era, companies have also started advertising digitally, across social media platforms. Digital advertising contributes a major proportion in the total revenue from the advertising industry. FICCI has projected Rs 594 billion of revenue from the digital advertising segment, for the current year. Post pandemic the industry is fetching big figures in terms of revenue. In 2021, the digital advertising revenue was almost double with Rs 383 billion as compared to Rs 192 billion the previous year. The report suggests Rs 765 billion as the potential revenue from the digital advertising industry in the year 2025. The FMCG sector contributes the highest spending on digital ads.
