Vedanta Aluminium accelerates towards net zero by 2050 with ambitious sustainability measures

Vedanta Aluminium announced on Monday its intensified commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2050, outlining a comprehensive strategy that involves clear timelines for emission mitigation, the implementation of advanced carbon sequestration technologies, increased reliance on renewables, and active support for climate resilience initiatives within local communities.

The pursuit of Net Zero, or carbon neutrality, revolves around striking a balance between the amount of greenhouse gas emissions produced and the amount effectively removed from the environment.

Vedanta Aluminium CEO John Slaven expressed the company's dedication to making a substantial environmental impact and leading the way towards a more sustainable future. "This multipronged approach reflects our unwavering commitment to making a meaningful impact on the environment and paving the way for a more sustainable future," Slaven stated.

The company made its inaugural appearance at COP28 in Dubai, where Slaven underscored the growing significance of aluminium in facilitating sustainable applications and its pivotal role in assisting entire economies in decarbonizing their value chains.

Additionally, Slaven highlighted Vedanta Aluminium's significant strides in ensuring sustainable operations, notably reducing its greenhouse gas (GHG) intensity by an impressive 28 percent in FY'23 compared to the FY'12 baseline. Remarkably, these achievements were accomplished while simultaneously increasing production by more than threefold during the same period.

Vedanta Aluminium's proactive efforts in sustainability align with the global push for companies to adopt eco-friendly practices and work towards minimizing their carbon footprint. The commitment to Net Zero signifies a pivotal step for Vedanta Aluminium in contributing to the collective global endeavor for a greener and more environmentally conscious future.
