New Delhi-based hyperlocal startup magicpin has reported a surge in food delivery orders, reaching a total of 10 lakh during the cricket World Cup matches on the government-backed Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) network. This marks a more than twofold increase compared to the monthly average. The company disclosed that on October 14, during the India versus Pakistan match, it fulfilled 35,000 food orders, with a peak of 50,000 orders on a single day during the India versus Australia match.

The unexpected surge in demand was attributed to the popularity of ONDC, which facilitated orders through magicpin's own buyer app and other major buyer apps such as Paytm, Phonepe's Pincode, and Ola. The company, which had initially announced discounts totalling Rs 50-100 crore at the commencement of the World Cup across various categories like food delivery, dining out, fashion, and grocery, expressed pride in surpassing the 10 lakh orders milestone.

Magicpin CEO and co-founder Anshoo Sharma remarked, "This milestone reflects our collaboration with the ONDC team and the combined relentless efforts to provide the best local discovery and rewards platform for the cricket lovers and Indians celebrating Diwali, other festivals."

Prior to the World Cup, magicpin claims to have had an average monthly order volume of around 4 lakh. The notable increase in orders during the cricketing event also underscores the growth of magicpin's food delivery business, experiencing a two-fold growth month-on-month.
