Bengal And IPL Cricketer Abishek Porel Arrested Over Allegations Of Rape

Bengal and Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper Abishek Porel has been arrested after serious allegations were levelled by a medical student, who has accused him of rape, physical assault, and criminal intimidation. Earlier, Justice Saugata Bhattacharya issued the arrest warrants to the Mogra Police Station in Hooghly.

What Are The Charges Against Abishek Porel?

According to the complainant, she was sexually abused under the false promise of marriage. In the complaint lodged at Mogra Police Station, the medical student stated that she and Porel had been in a relationship for the past three years. However, differences surfaced last year, after which the cricketer allegedly began distancing himself from her and ultimately refused to marry her.

Porel has been produced in the Chuchurah Court in Hooghly after he was arrested at Dum Dum, and the police have requested his remand, as per sources. A case has been registered against the Bengal cricketer under multiple sections of 69, 311, 318, 66/72 IT and BNS. He was first detained, and then, after thorough interrogation, police only arrested him.

Beyond the assault charges, the victim also alleged Porel blackmailed her by threatening to circulate intimate photos and videos. To protect the complainant's integrity and privacy, the Calcutta High Court had already ordered the securing of all electronic devices belonging to Abishek Porel.

The case, registered as Mogra PS FIR No. 346/2026, also includes non-bailable offences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Porel's most breakthrough campaign came in IPL 2025 when he hammered 301 runs in 14 matches for Delhi Capitals. Following his arrest law will take its own course and a big question mark has now arisen on his cricket career.
