New Delhi: India on Wednesday attained another major feat, as it successfully flight-tested the RudraM-II air-to-surface missile, upgrading the country’s defence to one level up. The flight test of the missile was carried out on May 29 off the coast of Odisha. Defence sources confirmed the successful flight testing of the missile, saying that the flight test met all the trial objectives, validating the propulsion system and control and guidance algorithm.
The test flight of the RudraM-II air-to-surface missile was carried out by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) from an Indian Air Force (IAF) Su-30 MK-I platform, which took place at approximately 11.30 am.
The flight test achieved all trial objectives, validating the missile's propulsion system, control, and guidance algorithms. The missile's performance was confirmed through data captured by range tracking instruments, including electro-optical systems, radar, and telemetry stations, all deployed by the Integrated Test Range (ITR) Chandipur at various locations, including an onboard ship.
The successful test of the RudraM-II marks a significant milestone in India's defense capabilities.
The Ministry of Defence issued a statement after the successful flight test of the missile, saying, “RudraM-II is an indigenously-developed solid-propelled air-launched missile system meant for Air-to-Surface role to neutralise many types of enemy assets. A number of state-of-the-art indigenous technologies developed by various DRDO laboratories have been incorporated in the missile system.”
Meanwhile, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, IAF and industry on the successful test-flight of RudraM-II. The successful test has consolidated the role of the RudraM-II system as a force multiplier to the Armed Forces, he said.
