The ongoing recruitment drive by the Indian Railways is aimed at filling 18,700 Assistant Loco Pilot positions. Originally, the drive was set to fill 5,966 vacancies, but the number was later increased to 18,799 to accommodate the growing demand from Zonal Railways. These vacancies are spread across 21 Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs), offering more opportunities for candidates to join the Indian Railways.
RRB ALP Exam 2025: Overview
The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) Computer-Based Test (CBT) is an essential step for candidates aiming to secure a position with Indian Railways. The first stage, the CBT 1, took place from November 25 to 29, 2024. After the exam, the provisional answer key was made available on December 5, 2024, on the official RRB websites. Candidates were allowed to raise objections to the answer key until December 10, 2024.
For those who successfully passed the CBT 1 exam, the next step is the CBT 2. The RRB has scheduled the CBT 2 examination for March 19 and 20, 2025. Candidates can expect their admit cards to be released four days before the exam, while the city intimation slip will be available ten days before the exam date.
It is important to note that only candidates who meet the required cutoff marks will be eligible for the CBT 2. The CBT 1 exam is purely a screening test, and its marks will not be included in the final merit list. Shortlisting for the CBT 2 will be done by the RRB, with candidates being selected at a ratio of 15 times the number of vacancies based on their performance in CBT 1.
