The rural constituency voted on April 11 in the phase one of the polls. The seat is distributed across Tawang, West Kameng, East Kameng, Papum Pare, Lower Subansiri, Kurung Kumey, Upper Subansiri and West Siang. The constituency has 33 assembly segments.

Jarjum Ete is the first woman candidate fielded by any party for a Lok Sabha seat in Arunachal Pradesh. The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill happened to be one of the key poll issues.

One of the key issues for the elections was the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 through which Hindu, Sikh, Parsi, Jain, Buddhist and Christian refugees from Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan would be granted Indian citizenship, if they have lived in India for six year, even if they do not have the necessary documents.

The population of Scheduled Tribe in the seat is 55.51%.

In the Republic Double Exit poll the Jan Ki Baat and CVoter predicted the alliance to win both the seats in the state.
