The seat is reserved for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes.
The battle for the seat was crucial for Congress' Mallikarjun Kharge who has won from the seat a total of eleven times. In 2014, the UPA era Union Minister had defeated Revunaik Belamagi from the BJP by winning 50.80 per cent of the votes. Jadhav won with a margin of 95452 votes against Kharge.
