The political fray between AAP's Atishi Marlena and BJP's debutant Gautam Gambhir has escalated beyond the East Delhi seat.

Following the constant to and fro, now AAP's candidate has written to the Returning Officer of the East Delhi Constituency against the cricketer-turned-politician for 'repeated violation of the Model Code of Conduct.

She accused Gambhir of distributing pamphlets without details such as the printer's name and quantity.

A day back, both the candidates got into a brawl over Gambhir's voter ID, wherein Marlena alleged that the BJP leader is listed twice in the electoral roll. Responding to which Gambhir targetted AAP's educationist saying that people without any vision engage in such "negative politics" and that the Election Commission would decide about the matter.

Earlier on Friday, Marlena tweeted a photo showing the electoral rolls of two constituencies (Rajinder Nagar(39) and Karol Bagh(23)) both featuring Gautam Gambhir's name. She alleged that Gambhir would face imminent disqualification from the Lok Sabha polls.

Following this, she has also filed a criminal complaint against the cricketer-turned-politician at the Tis Hazari court.

While the BJP candidate has mentioned in his election nomination affidavit to the Returning Officer that he is only registered to vote in the Assembly constituency Rajinder Nagar-39, he has also gotten into trouble with the EC for holding arally without permission. The EC has directed the East Delhi returning officer to file an FIR against Gambhir for the same under the Delhi Police Act.

East Delhi Lok Sabha seat will witness a compelling triangular contest between three candidates - new entrant cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir, Congress' Arvinder Singh Lovely and AAP candidate Atishi Marlena.

Delhi will see polling in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Phase 6 on May 12. Counting of votes will take place on May 23.
