From 81-year old mathematician to Dom community member, PM Narendra Modi's Varanasi candidacy was backed by not just one but four proposers. Read here to know about them

PM Narendra Modi who filed his nomination for 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Varanasi at the Rifle Club on Friday had the support of not one but four proposers for his candidacy. Dr Annapurna Shukla, Subhash Chandra, Jagdish Raja and Dr Ramshankar Patel were the four proposers accompanying him to the Returning Officer for the constituency.

PM Narendra Modi who filed his nomination for 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Varanasi at the Rifle Club on Friday had the support of not one but four proposers for his candidacy.

Dr Annapurna Shukla, Subhash Chandra, Jagdish Raja and Dr Ramshankar Patel were the four proposers accompanying him to the Returning Officer for the constituency.

A 'proposer' for a Lok Sabha elections as per the Election Commission guidelines:

A candidate of a recognised national party needs at least one locally registered voter to propose him as a candidate. Each candidate can be accompanied by five people including proposers. In case of an independent candidate or candidate of an unrecognised political party requires ten voters from the constituency to propose their names.

Who are the four people who proposed PM Narendra Modi as a candidate from Varanasi for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections:

Dr Annapurna Shukla

Dr Annapurna Shukla is known to be the manasputri of BJP ideologue and founder of Benaras Hindu University Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya. She is an MBBS doctor as well as a well-known academician. The 81-year-old had been very close to Malviya since her childhood. He is also the aunt of well-known 'Shiva trilogy' author Amish Tripathi. While speaking to the media she said that was grateful to have become the proposer for PM Modi.

Subhash Chandra

Chandra is the oldest member of the BJP in Varanasi who has been associated with the party since its Jan Sangh days. He told the media that he was grateful for the opportunity to not only be the proposer for an MP but for the future PM. The difference between PM Modi and his opponent is that of the sun and a lamp. The difference between PM Modi and his opponent will be of 7 lakh votes.

Jagdish Raja

Jagdish Raja Chowdhary is a member of the Dom Raja family which helps perform the last rites at Varanasi's Manikarnika Ghat. While speaking to the media he said that PM Modi has done things for the country that no Prime Minister had ever done.

Dr Ramshankar Patel

He is a retired scientist from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. His work has received the recognition from state and central government. While speaking to the media he said that he was very influenced by PM Modi as he thought positively and thought about everyone.
