Rahul Gandhi was leading in the high-profile seat with 3,60,914 votes while the BJP candidate was trailing with 1,59,870 ballots, the Election Commission data showed.

In his post on Facebook, Dinesh Pratap Singh said, "I served the people of Raebareli with great humility and hard work. However, if I have made any mistake in my thoughts, words or deeds during my service or have hurt anyone, then I seek forgiveness."

"I am very thankful to all well-wishers and party members who worked tirelessly and fought the election very well, but the decision was not in our hands. The public is the form of God, whatever mandate they give will always be accepted with respect," he stated further, assuring constant support to the people of Raebareli.

Raebareli voted on May 20, the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024.

Since the first Lok Sabha election in 1951-52, Rae Bareli, a bastion of the Congress party, has seen electoral success. Out of the 20 Lok Sabha elections and by-elections held in the constituency, the Congress emerged victorious 17 times. The only exception from this trend was observed in 1977 when Indira Gandhi faced defeat to a Janata Dal candidate following the lifting of the Emergency, and in the 1990s when the BJP's Ashok Singh secured victory on two occasions.

Rae Bareli has traditionally been considered a stronghold of the Congress party, given its historical association with the Gandhi family. constituency has been represented by former party president Sonia Gandhi for five consecutive terms since Independence.
