Bhubaneswar: In a humble gesture, Prime Minister Narendra Modi bowed down before Kamala Moharana, the woman who converts waste material into decorative items, when she arrived on stage set up for a rally in Odisha on May 29. Kamala Moharana had a mention in an edition of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio program last year. 

PM Modi had heaped praises on Kamala for her work. When the PM got to know about Kamala’s arrival on the dais, he became happy and bowed before her in the presence of a huge gathering. Visuals have emerged on social media when PM Modi can be seen bowing before Kamala at Kendrapara rally.

In the video, PM Modi can be seen interacting with Kamala just when she bows down to touch his feet after which the PM also knelt down to seek her blessing with folded hands. All the people present on the stage were seen hailing the moment.

After meeting Kamala on the dais, the Prime Minister sought her blessings by bowing his head before her.

Kamala runs a self-help group that waste materials to make baskets, pen stands, mobile phone stands, flower pots, hand fans, wall hangings and other decorative items.

She has been involved in converting waste to decorative items for the past eight years. Kamala had also sent a rakhi to Modi which was made from waste materials. 

"Friends, waste to wealth is also an important dimension of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Kamala Moharana, a sister from Kendrapada district of Odisha, runs a self-help group (SHG). The women of this group make many things such as baskets and mobile stands from milk pouches and other plastic packing materials" the PM had said while hailing the initiative said.
