Odisha Assembly Election Result 2024: The BJP won 35 Assembly seats in Odisha on Tuesday and was leading in 42 other constituencies, according to the Election Commission of India.

Odisha Assembly election: BJP wins 35 seats, leads in 42, BJD gets 25

The BJP won 35 Assembly seats in Odisha on Tuesday and was leading in 42 other constituencies, according to the Election Commission of India.

The Biju Janata Dal won 26 seats and was leading in 26 constituencies out of the 147 Assembly seats, it said.

BJP Wins 20 Seats, BJD Gains 15

As of 18:40 on counting day, the BJP has secured 20 seats in the Odisha Assembly polls, with the BJD trailing behind with 15 wins. While the former is presently leading in 61 other seats, the latter retains a lead in 34.

BJP Wins 8 Seats, BJD and INC Win 1 Each

The BJP continues to lead the race to elect the next government in Odisha, with the party winning 8 seats and leading on 73 others. The BJD and the INC have won a seat each and lead on 47 and 13 seats respectively.

BJP Wins 3 Seats, INC 1

The Bhartiya Janata Party has won in three assembly constituencies of Odisha, namely, Bargarh, Jharsuguda and Chilika while it continues to lead in 78 others. The Congress party, which is leading in 14 seats, has also won one in Chitrakonda. The BJD continues to lead in 47 seats but has not yet won one.

Patnaik leading in both Kantabanji, Hinjili Assembly seats

Odisha Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik was leading by 2,217 votes over his nearest BJP rival Laxman Bag in the Kantabanji Assembly seat, according to the Election Commission of India.

The BJD supremo was also leading by 3,643 votes over his nearest rival Sisir Kumar Mishra of BJP in the Hinjili assembly seat, the other constituency he is contesting, in Ganjam district.

CPI (M) candidate Laxman Munda leading

CPI (M) candidate and sitting MLA Laxman Munda was leading in Bonai assembly constituency. Independent candidate Soumya Ranjan Patnaik was leading in Ghasipura MLA seat over BJD nominee Badri Narayan Patra.

Forest and Environment Minister Pradip Kumar Amat, Works Minister Prafulla Kumar Mallik, Higher Education minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, Transport minister Tukuni Sahu, Science and Technology Minister Ashok Chandra Panda, Finance Minister Bikram Keshari Arukha, Handlooms & Textiles Minister Rita Sahu and Women & Child Development Minister Basanti Hembram are trailing, according to the ECI.

BJP leads in 73 seats, BJD ahead in 58

BJP was leading in 73 assembly seats in Odisha, according to the Election Commission of India. Biju Janata Dal nominees, on the other hand, were leading in 58 constituencies out of 147 assembly seats in the state for which trends were available till 1.30 pm

Congress was ahead in 14 seats, the CPI (M) in one, while Independent candidate was leading in one seat.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is leading in both Assembly seats—Hinjili and Kantabanji.

At least eight ministers in Naveen Patnaik’s cabinet are trailing in the Odisha assembly election.

BJP takes lead in 76 assembly constituencies

According to the early trends released by the Election Commission of India (ECI), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has surpassed the majority mark in the Odisha Assembly elections. The party is currently leading in 76 constituencies. The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is trailing behind, leading in 53 seats. The Indian National Congress is leading in 12 constituencies.

What happened in 2019 Odisha Assembly Elections?

In the 2019 legislative assembly elections, Naveen Patnaik-led BJD posted a thumping victory winning 112 seats out of 147 in the state. Patnaik was sworn in as chief minister for a fifth consecutive time since 2000. The BJP won 23 and the Congress managed to win nine seats in 2019.
