Ayushmann’s script sense

Ayushmann has previously stated in an interview that he enjoys working in movies that are challenging. As an actor, he prefers roles that will tackle an issue rather than choosing just casual typical roles. Though he added that he does enjoy occasionally working in roles that are just comedy fun. According to him, a script does not have to be controversial or uncomfortable to pique his interest, it just needs to be different and bring into light a topic that is rarely discussed.

In the movie, Bala  Ayushmann will be playing the role of a balding man. Once again he plays the lead in a movie where the plot is uniquely different and has not been seen in Bollywood before. In the posters and promos of the film, Ayushmann truly embraces the look of a balding man. He can be seen with a severely receded hairline, looking very different from his normal self where he has a head full of hair. When Ayushmann was asked how he felt while playing a balding man in an interview, he said “I am not a perfect candidate for that, but I know a lot of people who suffer from premature baldness in their 20s. And Bala is that character, and I have a few classmates, batch mates of mine, like now we are in the early to mid-30s, so you get to know a lot of people who are suffering from it. And deep down inside they have this complex also. Bala is that guy. Though Bala is in his 20s so he is more complex because all his peers, his friends, they have healthy hair. And he used to have healthy hair in his teens and he was the stud of the class. Then suddenly, you know this baldness is happening and he was not able to deal with it. So that’s the crux of the story.” When asked why he did not actually shave his hair for the role he added, “I wanted to because it was easier. You don’t have to waste time with prosthetics. Now I had to devote those two hours to get dressed up. This was because we had to show different phases of baldness which we couldn’t achieve without prosthetics. And if I went completely bald we would have no option.”

The prosthetics on Ayushmann for Bala look rather convincing, making him appear convincingly bald. Ayushmann’s recent movies, Article 15 and Dream Girl, have been extremely successful, both commercially and critically.
