Dabangg was remade in Tollywood, will Dabangg 3 follow the pattern?

Salman Khan, since his 2009 release Wanted, has been ruling the box-office. The movie was a remake of the Tamil film Pokkiri, directed by Prabhu Deva, who also directed its Hindi remake. After the huge success of Wanted at the box-office. Salman worked on remakes of three more Tollywood movies – Bodyguard, Kick, and Ready which again turned out to be success stories for him. However, things were reversed for Bhaijaan’s Dabangg and Dabangg 2, as the movies were remade in Tollywood, after the success it got in Bollywood. Read below to know who starred in those remakes.

Gabbar Singh, the remake of Dabangg

Dabangg was the highest-grossing movie in 2010. Salman’s portrayal of Chulbul Pandey was loved by all. Following the success of the movie, South superstar, Pawan Kalyan decided to remake it in Tollywood. The remake was titled as Gabbar Singh. Power star, Pawan Kalyan played the lead role of a cop. He also produced the film. Sonakshi Sinha’s debut character of Rajjo, was played by Shruti Hassan in the remake. Released in 2012, the movie became a blockbuster in Tollywood. Made on a budget of ₹30 crores, its total worldwide collection stands around ₹120 crores.

Sardaar Gabbar Singh

After the success of the first part, Gabbar Singh, the makers decided to make a sequel of the movie. While Pawan Kalyan reprised his role as Gabbar Singh, other cast included was – Kajal Aggarwal, Tisca Chopra, and villain played by Sharad Kelkar. It was speculated that it will be a remake of Dabangg 2 because the first part was also a remake. But, this was not the case for the sequel. Sardaar Gabbar Singh was made with a different storyline than Dabangg 2. However, the movie landed in trouble as Arbaaz Khan, actor - director of Dabangg 2, reportedly sent a legal notice to the makers. It was after the trailer release that Arbaaz found some similarities between his directorial venture Dabangg 2 and Sardaar Gabbar Singh. The issue was later solved and the movie released in April 2016.

Dabangg 3, starring Salman Khan as the fans favourite cop, Chulbul Pandey, is set to release later this year. Sonakshi Sinha will also reprise her role, of Chulbul Pandey’s wife, Rajjo. It will be the third instalment of the Dabangg franchise. The shooting of the movie is on-going. Recently a poster and a small clip from the movie was revealed, announcing the release date of the film. Dabangg 3 will be dubbed in Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada. Directed by Prabhu Deva, it is slated to release on December 20, 2019.
