Luck by Chance was Zoya Akhtar's directorial debut film and it featured Farhan Akhtar in the lead role. The movie was a drama released on January 30, 2009. Farhan also contributed as a producer for it alongside Ritesh Sidhwani. Luck by Chance is a film about struggling actors who are trying to get a break into the industry. It depicts the extent to which newcomers could go to try and become a big name in the industry and the way stardom can change people for the worse.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara was Zoya Akhtar's second film and was also produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. The movie released on July 15, 2011, and was a huge success when it released. Farhan played the role of one of the main characters in the film. The movie shows the journey of three young men who go on a tour of Europe. It teaches its audience a beautiful lesson about life through the experiences of the lead characters and the people that they meet during their journey.

Dil Dhadakne Do

Another emotional movie directed by Zoya Akhtar, Dil Dhadakne Do featured Farhan Akhtar in an important supporting role. The movie was released on June 5, 2015, and starred Anil Kapoor, Shefali Shah, Priyanka Chopra and Ranveer Singh in the leading roles. The movie is about a rich family that is almost bankrupt. The father and mother of the house orchestrate a cruise for their 30th anniversary. The movie then tells the story of how the family learnt to love each other and how the parents realised that they need to give their children more freedom through the event that occurred during the cruise.

These three movies directed by Zoya Akhtar had Farhan play important roles in the past. Farhan Akhtar also featured in Bombay Talkies, where Zoya was a director for one of the anthologies, however, Farhan played a minor role and was only a special appearance. Farhan also produced the hit film Gully Boy that was directed by Zoya Akhtar but he did not act in the film.
