Hrithik Roshan had made his debut in Bollywood with the 2000 hit Kaho Na Pyar Hai. After that, he had starred in many hit films like Fida, Mission Kashmir, Yaadein and Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham. But there was a period in the actor’s career when he could not deliver at the box-office. He had some back to back flops. Around this time his father, Rakesh Roshan decided to star Hrithik in the sci-fi movie Koi…Mil Gaya which released in 2003.
You make me be a better human, father, son, actor and friend. Thank you for being an example, it is upto you I look, when my children look for their dad. Happy Teacher's day. pic.twitter.com/VIm2Qu1qKN— Hrithik Roshan (@iHrithik) September 5, 2019
In a recent interview with a news portal, Hrithik Roshan has revealed that many people had advised his father against the project. A well-wisher had reportedly said that movie might his son’s career as an actor. Hrithik was an action hero and casting him in the role of a mentally challenged boy was not a good idea. However, Koi…Mil Gaya went on to become a massive box office hit. The movie silenced all those who doubted the film. It reportedly brought back Hrithik Roshan’s career back on the track.
India's then PM Atal Vajpayee to Hrithik : "Bahut jaldi bade ho gaye [you've matured overnight as an actor]. You've had the guts to make a path-breaking film." #15YearsOfKoiMilGaya pic.twitter.com/dqKP32CS3a— HrithikRules.com (@HrithikRules) August 8, 2018
Koi…Mil Gaya was an experiment in Hindi cinema which had never been attempted before. The story revolves around a mentally disabled boy tries to communicate with extraterrestrial beings from outer space through his father’s equipment. After they answer his call, the boy forms an unlikely friendship with one of them who gets left behind. While some called it a Hindi remake of the Hollywood movie, ET, Rakesh Roshan denied such claims.
In the interview, Hrithik Roshan opened up about experimenting with films. He had reportedly said that an actor should have the complete freedom to experiment. His own experience in the matter was a good one. Hrithik also adds that if one is feeling the urge to do something they must explore it, or they will never find out who they are.
Hrithik Roshan had recently appeared on screen in Super 30. His other film, War released on October 2 and netizens seem to react favourably towards it. He will next be seen in Krrish 4. The movie is still in the pre-production phase and is touted to release sometime in 2020. Hrithik will also star in Ramayana alongside Deepika Padukone but nothing much has been revealed as of yet.
