IIFA 2019: Deepika Padukone’s outfit sparks memes, actress goes 'ROFL'

Move over, Met Gala, even the Indian awards shows have now become a platform where celebrities are not shying away from fashion experiments. At the IIFA 2019 held on Wednesday, Deepika Padukone - Ranveer Singh were hands down the most uniquely dressed celebrity, and that provided fodder for a flurry of memes. The best part, however, was that Deepika Padukone also took the memes sportingly by sharing one that compared her look to a mop.

Deepika Padukone wore an extensive ensemble, an off-shoulder shimmery gown with a feathery tail and a ‘ghunghat’ that flowed into a very long train. 

On the other hand, Ranveer Singh’s outfit, a safari suit-like attire with a bright red ‘dupatta’ flowing from both sides was more on expected lines, in terms of the actor’s quirky dressing sense.   

There were memes and funny comments galore that surfaced for both of them, some wondering if Deepika thought it was the MET Gala and not the IIFA 2019. 

One wrote, “Deepika got confused with iifa and met gala.”

Many compared it to the mop. For Ranveer, more than his attire, it was his hairstyle that got the attention of the meme-makers. Some compared Ranveer’s hairstyle to Shakti Kapoor and Rajpal Yadav’s characters. 

Deepika herself shared one of the memes, and captioned it, ‘ROFL’.

Not just a meme on herself, Deepika Padukone also posted one that called to choose between Ranveer Singh and ‘Despicable Me’s Agnes. The ‘Padmaavat’ star had an obvious answer, “Mine.” 

 

Couple wins big 

Meanwhile, both the actors were honoured at the IIFA 2019 awards. While Ranveer Singh won Best Actor for his performance in ‘Padmaavat’. Deepika Padukone was selected for the Best Performance by an Actress in the last 20 years. 

Professional front 

On the professional front, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh are set to reunite on the big screen with ‘83'. While Ranveer plays legendary cricketer Kapil Dev, his wife will turn his reel-life wife again as Romi Dev. When the film was announced, Ranveer had said, “Who better to play My Wifey than My Wifey?!  @deepikapadukone plays Romi Dev in @83thefilm !!! Genius casting courtesy @kabirkhankk #83squad.”
