Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani are over the moon as their venture ‘Kabir Singh’ took an outstanding opening at the box office. The lead pair conveyed their gratitude to all who made the success possible, the audience, as the first day figure, set records at the ticket windows.
Both Shahid and Kiara shared an animated graphic of the film’s poster to thank the audiences for the love. While the former captioned the post, “Thank you for the overwhelming love. #kabirsingh,’ the ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ actress’ feelings were evident in how she wrote the post, “Thankyouuuuuuuu sooooooooooo much for all the love ❤️🙏🏼.” (sic)
The duo’s posts were in response to ‘Kabir Singh’ earning Rs 20.21 crore on the opening day, becoming Shahid’s highest-ever opener, beating ‘Padmaavat’ and Kiara’s highest in three years after the Dhoni biopic, which had earned Rs 21.30 crore in 2016.
As the movie continued its impressive run on the second day, minting Rs 22.71 crore and taking the total to 42.92 crore, the lead actors were more delighted as they shared a video that merged the scenes of the movie with the collections.
A weekend total in excess of Rs 60 crore and a lifetime business over Rs 100 crore is now almost certain.
What’s noteworthy about the collections have been the fact that the movie has not been unanimously acclaimed by the critics. Moreover, Shahid’s character Kabir’s ‘toxic masculinity’ has been drawing flak not just from a section of the netizens but also celebrities like Sona Mohapatra.
‘Kabir Singh’ is the remake of this movie’s director Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s ‘Arjun Reddy’ that starred Vijay Deverakonda and Shalini Pandey. The Hindi adaptation, produced by T-Series Bhushan Kumar, Murad Khetani and Ashwin Varde, is definitely following its Telugu counterpart, not only in hype, but also in the success.
