Kangana Ranaut's 'Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi' and Nawazuddin Siddiqui's 'Thackeray' both released together on January 25. Touted to be one of the biggest clashes of the year, both films were on equal footing when it came to critical acclaim. Now, the early box office collections of the two films are in and although both are off to a flying start, the Kangana Ranaut starrer has the clear upper hand.
According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the historical epic on Rani Lakshmibai is roaring at the box office. The film amassed Rs 8.75 crore on the opening day and Rs 18.10 crore on the second day. After seeing a tremendous jump on the weekend, the total collections have reached a whopping Rs 26.85 crore so far.
'Thackeray', on the other hand, has also done really well for itself, as it minted Rs 6 crore on an opening day and then nearly doubled the collections on day 2 as it earned Rs 10 crore. With these impressive figures, the total of the Abhijit Panse directorial has now reached Rs 16 crore.
Now, while 'Manikarnika' clearly has the upper hand, it must be noted that the film came out in three major languages- Hindi, Tamil and Telugu while 'Thackeray' only released in Hindi and Marathi. Moreover, depending upon the budget on which the films were mounted on, the success of the two Bollywood flicks are commendable.
