'Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi' does not seem to have an end in sight pertaining to Bollywood actor Sonu Sood opting out of the film. Earlier, Kangana Ranaut reportedly claimed that the main reason Sonu walked out of the film was that he refused to work under a woman director. Although the original director of the film is Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi, reports suggested that he was busy shooting for the NTR biopic, that stars Nandamuri Balakrishna, Rana Daggubati and Vidya Balan in pivotal roles. It was due to his absence that Kangana decided to direct the rest of the scenes of the film.

However, one can say that there is no truth to the allegations made by Kangana, as Sood's spokesperson stated that the main reason was the clash of dates, and not because he had a problem with Kangana directing a few patches of the film. Recently, actor Sonu Sood has responded to the allegations made against him by actor Kangana Ranaut. As per reports, Sood stated that Kangana has just used her 'woman victim card' and that the gender of the director was definitely not the reason why he backed out from the project. Giving an insight, the 'Dabangg' actor reportedly disclosed that that Ranaut is a great friend, but her using the 'woman victim card' is extremely ridiculous. Citing competence, as the main reason for walking out of the project, Sood dismissed reports of walking out of the project for working under a female director. As per reports, Sonu Sood revealed that in his two-decade-long career in Bollywood, he has never had a problem with anyone and has also worked with Farah Khan in 'Happy New Year', which suggests that him working under a female director is not a problem.

With the allegations of Sood walking out of the film, because she was directing it, Kangana Ranaut also reportedly claimed that Sood shot a few 'Kushti' scenes behind her back as he was training for it since the past four months. The film is slated to release on on January 25, 2019, and will clash with the Emraan Hashmi starrer 'Cheat India'. Earlier, reports stated that Kangana Ranaut starrer 'Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi' will clash with Hrithik Roshan starrer 'Super 30'. However, the makers of the Hrithik Roshan starrer have decided to prepone the release of their film, thus averting a clash with the Kangana Ranaut starrer.
