National Awards 2019: Kangana Ranaut's sister Rangoli takes jibe at 'paan elaichi award shows'

Bollywood stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Vicky Kaushal on Friday won the National Film Award for best actor for their roles in "Andhadhun" and "Uri", respectively. Bollywood emerged a major winner at the 66th National Film Awards, which were scheduled for May but were rescheduled due to the Lok Sabha elections.

Kangana Ranaut, a recipient of 3 National Awards (‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns', ‘Fashion’ and ‘Queen’) in an interaction with an entertainment portal said that she is happy that 'Andhadhun' got its due as it was snubbed at every other award show. She said that she was thrilled seeing the winner list.

Kangana Ranaut's sister Rangoli Chandel too echoed the same thoughts on Twitter and wrote that it was good to see genuine talent getting recognition. She further went on to take a jibe at Karan Johar and 'paan elaichi' award shows. Netizens wondered if it was targeted at Alia Bhatt's 'Gully Boy'. Take a look at her tweet -

For those unaware, Kangana impressed the audience with her act in 'Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi' but unfortunately the film couldn't be selected for the National Film Awards 2019. Why? Some reports suggest that it wasn't submitted before the cut off date for censor certificate which was December 2018.

Back in March 2019, on Kangana's birthday, when she was asked about winning the fourth National Award, she had then said: "I feel there are certain things which if you will not respect, then it is, in turn, disrespectful for that organization itself. So, if I or my film 'Manikarnika...' doesn't win at National film awards, then it will question the credibility of that award ceremony but if I come across other good work then, I will be objective enough to say it's better than me. I think last year, Tabu ji gave an amazing performance in 'Andhadun'. I am floored by what she has done. I think in the coming year, it will be revealed. If there will be a better performance than 'Manikarnika', I will definitely appreciate that but I don't think it will happen."

Meanwhile, Aditya Dhar won the Best Director award for his debut "Uri: The Surgical Strike" while "Andhadhun" also won awards for best Hindi film and best-adapted screenplay. Actor Keerthy Suresh won the best actress award for her portrayal of yesteryear star Savitri in Telugu film "Mahanati". 

"Badhaai Ho", about a family dealing with a late pregnancy, was adjudged the best popular film providing wholesome entertainment and veteran actor Surekha Sikri bagged the best supporting actress for her role of a cantankerous matriarch. Akshay Kumar-starrer "Padman" was named the best film on social issues.  

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Padmavaat", which faced a lot of hurdles during its release, walked away with best choreography for 'Ghoomer' and the best music director award for Bhansali. Its song "Binte Dil" landed Arijit Singh the best male playback singer recognition. 

Singer-lyricist Swanand Kirkire won the best supporting actor award for Marathi film "Chumbak". The awards were announced by jury head Rahul Rawail
