Sona Mohapatra on Monday took to her Instagram handle to thank Tanushree Dutta for her support. She thanked Tanushree after the actor praised the singer for raising her voice against the well-known music composer Anu Malik. According to several media reports, Anu Malik has been accused of sexual harassment by multiple women. This incident became a part of the global #MeToo movement.
The music composer was first accused of misconduct last year during the #MeToo movement wave and was dropped as the judge of a singing reality show on Sony channel. Other singers like Shweta Pandit and Neha Bhasin levelled allegations against the music composer. All the allegations resurfaced with his reinstatement this September.
In an interview with a leading daily, Tanushree Dutta who initiated the #MeToo movement in India applauded Sona Mohapatra and others for "fighting the good fight" against Malik and his reinstatement. Sona, on the other hand, said that she felt ecstatic after reading the actor's critique of the channel's double standards. She posted a Facebook post where she added in her statement that; this is not her own fight against one man but it is against the entire system that just normalises sexual harassment and encourages perverted behaviour, power play, and a lopsided system. She also said that she is not the one to tire easily or run away and give up on the battlefield but she is the one to fight the odds and the war will soon be won. She also mentioned that the tide is turning and as it takes time, there are good people around the world that rally together to fight the evil and help in changing things for the betterment.
She further added that several times when people stepped out in public and spoke for the betterment it always strengthen the movement. She also said that #MeToo will not die so easily and now the second wave against the right is here, called the #Time'sUp movement.
Sona was the first to call on Anu Malik last year claiming that he used to call her up at odd times and even once called her something ugly in front of music composer and her now husband Ram Sampath. Bhasin and Pandit came forward later with their stories of alleged harassment from Anu Malik when they were young and looking for work.
Sona further added that when Anu Malik was denied to work as a judge in the show it was like a symbolic victory. She also mentioned it is a fight for a better and safer future for children and women of India. She also said this is not a minor issue but a fight of good against evil.
