According to filmmaker David Yates, the character of Dumbledore was gay in the Harry Potter series. His upcoming directorial venture 'Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald' will be based on the sexuality of the Hogwarts' headmaster, Professor Dumbledore, from the Harry Potter fictional world.

The movie aims to explore Dumbledore's relationship with Gellert Grindelwald, who was considered to be one of the greatest Dark Wizards of all times. In the fictional world, Grindelwald has only been surpassed by Tom Riddle, who became Voldemort.

Reportedly, in an interview, Yates referred to Dumbledore as 'gay'. However, according to latest reports, the director is denying the claims saying that he never said Dumbledore was gay. Explaining the conundrum, Yates said that the movie does not explicitly say that Dumbledore was gay, nor is it focusing on his sexual orientation. Rather, the story of the film is such that it becomes apparent that Dumbledore's sexual orientation was that of a homosexual man.

Yates also said that they did not try to airbrush or hide anything in the movie. It also showcases some 'sensual' and 'intimate' moments between the two characters when they were fairly young. The relationship is the nodal point of the upcoming 'Fantastic Beasts' movie.
