Latin Grammy 2019: Mon Laferte exposes to protest police brutality in Chile

The 20th annual Latin Grammy Awards was held on November 14, 2019, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas. Many celebrities made some amazing fashion statements on the red carpet event of the award show. While they all stole the attention of the audiences. Chilean singer Mon Laferte made heads turn with her red carpet presence. Mon Laferte gave a social message by exposing herself on the red carpet event. Laferte, in order to protest against the police brutality in Chile, pulled off the brave move.

Laferte came to the red carpet dressed in a black jacket with a belt around its waist. She also wore a green scarf around her neck. She stopped, while walking on the red carpet and opened her jacket. Her exposed her bare chest to the camera which had the phrase ‘En Chile torturan violan y matan’ written with a marker. The phrase translates to ‘In Chile, they torture, rape and kill.’

Thousand of Chilean citizens were out on the street protesting against the government. The protest started last month after then government declared a hike in the subway fares. Since the, around 20 people have died protesting against the cause. Mon Laferte has been extensively promoting the protest on her social media and is also seen being a part of some of them.

The singer-songwriter, 38, won the best alternative album award for her song Norma. While accepting the award, she went on the stage and in her speech she dedicated her award to her homeland. She also read out a bone-chilling poem sent to her by her friend. In her speech, she said that she’d like to thank her collegues, as well as the public. She further added that she’s thankful for the people and the fans that are there and added that nothing could happen without the people.
