Filmmaker and producer Steven Spielberg's statement of complimenting superhero films in an interview has gone viral. In the statement, he can be seen complimenting the superhero films and also talking about his favorite MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) movie. The statement went viral after incidents of the filmmaker, Martin Scorsese, and Francis Ford Coppola, criticizing the superhero and Marvel films that came to light wherein they had compared the films to amusement parks.

Spielberg's love for superhero movies

The much talked about comment was made by Spielberg at the Cannes film festival wherein he talked about how he loved Richard Donner's Superman, Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight and MCU's Iron Man 1. He also revealed that his favorite MCU film was Guardians of the Galaxy. He supported his comment by saying that he had seen something different and new in the James Gunn directorial.

Steven Speilberg's comments came in the wake of the MCU movies getting the flak from prominent filmmakers such as Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola. Scorsese had said that the MCU movies were not cinema as he was unable to watch them. Martin's statement was supported by Cappola, who called the Marvel films despicable.

In events that preceded this, Martin Scorsese's comments on Marvel feature films went all over the internet and several Hollywood actors who have acted in the MCU films hit back at the producer for comparing their films with "amusement parks". Karen Gillan, known for playing the character of Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy, hit out at Scorsese.

While speaking to international media, Gillan also said that she was of the firm believer that the Marvel Universe movies were definitely a part of the everyday cinema. She further added that the world of cinema is a place of art where stories are told with the help of visuals.

The comments criticizing the American-Italian filmmaker have come in response to his interview with a local media outlet, wherein he stated that Marvel films are not a work of cinema and represent theme-parks. He further added that he tried to watch superhero films but couldn't finish as they are not "cinema".
