Mohan Babu’s daughter, actress Lakshmi Manchu also conveyed her excitement about the latest step in his life.

The actor-politician was known to be close to Telugu Desam Party (TDP) founder and legendary actor-filmmaker NT Rama Rao. He had also joined the party and campaigned in the ‘80s. He was also elected as a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament from AP in 1995 and served till 2000.

Speaking to the media after the event, Mohan Babu was quoted as saying, "After 20 years, I have re-entered politics. I did not make a comeback to politics just for the sake of one MLA seat or MP seat. I clarified to Jagan that I'm not expecting anything from him. If that's the case, I could have joined Jagan's party about three years back. I wholeheartedly feel that YSRCP will win the elections and Jagan will become the chief minister of AP.”

He also reportedly said, “All parties invited me, whether it is the TDP, YSRCP or the BJP. It is my wish to join any party at any time. That is the nature of democracy. I will campaign for the YSRCP and follow whatever plans the party has for me.”
