70th National Film Awards Highlights: Mithun Chakraborty, Rishab Shetty, Nithya, Manasi Win Big

70th National Film Awards LIVE: The winners for the year 2022 were honoured by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu at the Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on October 8. The ceremony saw the winners in all categories - Sooraj R Barjatya was named Best Director for Uunchai. The adventure film, centred on four ageing friends readying to scale Mt Everest, also won Neena Gupta a Best Supporting Actress prize. Additionally, Mithun Chakraborty was bestowed with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, which is India's highest award in the field of cinema.

Manasi Parekh, who won her first National Award, broke down while being conferred the Best Actress award for Kutch Express. She shared her award with actress Nithya Menen for the Tamil film Thiruchitrambalam. On the other hand, Mani Ratnam and AR Rahman took home their seventh National Award.

• Dadasaheb Phalke Award: Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty receives the prestigious 54th Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

• Sooraj Barjatya wins big: The veteran director receives the National Film Award for Uunchai in the Best Direction category.

• Sreepath P. K: The child actor has received the National Film Award for Malikappuram in the Best Child Artist category.

• Brahmamstra Part 1: President Droupadi Murmu honours composer Pritam with the National Film Award for Best Music Direction for Brahmastra - Part 1 Shiva.

• Rishab Shetty: The actor has won the Best Actor award for his performance in Kantara.

• Nithya Menen wins Best Actress: The actress has received her Best Actress award for the Tamil film Thiruchitrambalam. Speaking with ANI, the actress expressed her emotions on receiving the prestigious award and said, “It feels wonderful”.

• Manasi Parekh breaks down: The actress won her first National Award for the movie Kutch Express at the 70th ceremony. She was conferred in the Best Actress category. 

• Neena Gupta at National Film Award: The veteran actress received the prestigious award in the Best Supporting Actress category for the movie Uunchai.

• AR Rahman bagged his 7th National Film Award: The veteran composer won the prestigious award for Best Background Score for Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1.

• Madhyantara (Intermission): The movie has been honoured with the Best Editing award at the 70th National Film Awards. The skilful editing enhances the film's emotional depth and storytelling. 

• Mani Ratnam's 7th National Award: The veteran director was conferred the National Award for Ponniyin Selvan-Part I in the Best Tamil Film category. It is Mani Ratnam's 7th National Award.

• Manoj Bajpayee: The veteran actor has won big for Gulmohar. He has been awarded the Special Mention (feature film) Award at the National Film Awards by the Indian President.

• Miriam Chandy Menacherry: A documentary filmmaker and producer from Kerala , won the Best Direction (Non-Feature Film) award for her documentary From the Shadows.
• Gulmohar: Directed by Rahul V Chittella, the movie won the Best Hindi Film award. It also received a Special Mention and was recognised for Best Screenplay.
• Aimee Baruah: President Droupadi Murmu confers her with National Award for Birubala: Witch To Padmashri winning a Special Mention in the Non-Feature Films category.

• Vishal Bhardwaj: He receives the award for Best Music Direction in the Non-Feature Film category for his work on Fursat (Hindi).

• Deepak Dua: He was conferred with the Best Film Critic award by President Droupadi Murmu at the ceremony.

• Mani Ratnam opens up about making Ponniyan Selvan I: The director expressed gratitude for winning a National Award for Ponniyin Selvan and recalled his struggle to make the first installment. “It’s a very special film because it comes from a huge classic novel, which has been popular for over 50 years. It’s probably the most loved Tamil novel. It’s been a dream for me to do this project. I tried to make it 3–4 times before. So, I am glad I got it. I am glad that my work is recognised, and I’m getting a National Award for it,” he said. Ponniyin Selvan I won the National Film Award for Best Tamil Film, Best Sound Design and Best Cinematography.

• Manasi Parekh at National Awards: The actress dazzles on the red carpet in a traditional ensemble. The actress has earned the Best Actress award for Kutch Express.

• Neena Gupta at National Awards: The actress recalled working with biggies of Bollywood in Uunchai, which earned her the National Award for Best Supporting Actress. "This is my fourth award. I want more," she shared on the red carpet.

• Mithun arrives for National Awards: The Dadasaheb Phalke winner arrived on the red carpet but was snapped with an arm brace. He didn't confirm his next project and spoke about his Disco Dancer moniker.

• Jani Master's National Award suspended: Jani Master was to receive a National Award for Best Choreography for Thiruchitrambalam (2022). Pending rape allegations, the honour has been suspended. The Ministry Of Information And Broadcasting has also withdrawn his invitation to the ceremony.

• Mithun's big honour at National Awards: Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty, star of films such as Mrigayaa, Disco Dancer and Prem Pratigya has been named the recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the government’s highest recognition in the field of cinema.

• National Award for Best Documentary: Sohil Vaidya’s Murmurs of the Jungle will be honoured with the Best Documentary award at the prestigious 70th National Film Awards, hosted at Vigyan Bhavan in new Delhi. 
   

• National Award for Best Director (Hindi): At the 70th National Film Awards, Sooraj Barjatya will be honoured as the Best Director for his film Uunchai.

• Rahman wins National Award: AR Rahman won the National Film Award for best music director (background music) for his work in Mani Ratnam's Ponnyin Selvan-Part 1, which was also named the best Tamil film. 
   

• Gulmohar is Best Hindi Film: Sharmila Tagore and Manoj Bajpayee starrer "Gulmohar", a family drama exploring the meaning of family and home, was judged best Hindi film.
