Bhumi Pednekar: 'India is obsessed with the need to have fair skin'

Actor Bhumi Pednekar has just delivered a hit at the box-office with the sports drama, Saand Ki Aankh, which featured her alongside actor Taapsee Pannu. Now, the actor is gearing up for the release of her latest film, Bala. The quirky romantic-comedy also stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Yami Gautam alongside Bhumi. Some time ago, Bhumi stated that people in India have an obsession for fair skin and, through her role in Bala, she wants to help change that notion.

Bala will release on November 7, 2019 

Bhumi made the statement during her media interaction for the promotions of Bala. She said that she feels that there is a strong obsession with the need to have fair skin. As an actor, Bhumi said she feels that she has enough power that people will listen to her and her colleagues. Cinema, she feels, is the most far-reaching visual medium in the country and she wants to do her best to fight prejudice through this medium.

Bhumi is known to talk about various social issues in her films. Her debut film, 2015's Dum Laga Ke Haisha, saw her play the role of an overweight woman. The 2017 Akshay Kumar-starrer Toilet: Ek Prem Katha spoke about the issue of open defecation and the need for proper sanitation facilities. In Bala, she plays the role of a dark-skinned woman.

Bala also stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Yami Gautam along with Bhumi Pednekar

Post the release of Bala, Bhumi Pednekar will be seen in the romantic-comedy Pati Patni Aur Woh. The trailer of the film, scheduled for release on December 6, was dropped online today. The film also stars Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday. Bhumi is also gearing up Karan Johar's magnum opus, Takht. The historical drama will also feature stars such as Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Anil Kapoor, and Vicky Kaushal along with Bhumi Pednekar.
