Chhaava Box Office Collection Day 28: The period drama starring Vicky Kaushal as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj has emerged as a bonafide superhit at the box office. Almost one month since its release, Chhaava has collected ₹540.06 crore at the box office in India. It is less than ₹5 crore short of becoming the 9th highest-grossing Hindi film, beating Pathaan.
However, the biz of Chhaava has slowed down before Holi. On Thursday, the film minted ₹3.9 crore, its lowest single-day collection so far. The number is expected to be on the lower end on Friday, March 14 because of Holi. The shows may start filling up towards the evening as p[people will take time to enjoy the festival with their loved ones.
John Abraham's The Diplomat is also set to release on March 14. It is one of the few releases in March and is expected to score a decent opening on Holi. Since the reviews of the film are good, positive word of mouth may boost its collection.
Chhaava, directed by Laxman Utekar who worked with Vicky Kaushal on the comedy film Zara Hatke, Zara Bachke, is the actor’s third biographical film after Sardar Udham and Sam Bahadur. Vicky said as someone growing up in Mumbai, he was aware of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’s story.
“It was there in the history books but you don’t actually understand the emotional gravitas of it. I got to know the story in more detail from Laxman sir, I felt ‘Wow, this is an important story to tell’," the actor shared.
