Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light put Indian cinema on the global map once again. The movie not only went on to compete at the Cannes Film Festival's Palme d’Or after 30 years but also created several moments that will be remembered for years to come. Among all, the biggest moment was when the movie won the Grand Prix honour, the second-most prestigious prize after the Palme d'Or. But before winning the honour, the team was already in the news as they chose to dance on the red carpet.

When asked who started grooving first, the actress said “I'm not sure at this point, but it was probably me”. Chhaya was one of the three main leads alongside Kani Kusruti and Divya Prabha in All We Imagine As Light.

That’s how we express our joy: Chhaya Kadam

In an interview with PTI, the actress recalled a conversation about how someone called her from Mumbai and joked, "You were dancing as if you were in your own courtyard." This didn't sit well with the actress and replied, "Kyun nahin? (Why not)." Speaking to the news agency, she expressed why they danced on the red carpet. "Just to be part of the main competition after 30 years is a huge achievement, not to mention the award that we won. Why follow protocol? Hum apni khushi aise hi dikhaate hain, kood kood kar. (That’s how we express our joy, by jumping and dancing in joy)," she added.

What was the photographers' reaction to their dance at Cannes?

The actress said it was not just them celebrating the moment, in fact, everyone around them joined them. She recalled when the team stood still for the photographs after grooving, the shutterbugs present at the venue requested them to keep dancing. She revealed when they got out of their car, the iconic Marathi song Gulabi Saree was playing in the background.
